Yet, the geopolitical backdrop remains complex. Democracies and authoritarian regimes, like titans locked in a silent struggle, will undoubtedly approach AI development and potential weaponization with contrasting ideologies. This global chess game will force AI companies to choose between global expansion and domestic specialisation, navigating a landscape as intricate as an Escher drawing.

 

The year 2024, then, stands as a pivotal point in the history of artificial intelligence. The seeds sown in 2023 – the anxieties, the ambitions, the regulations – are now blossoming into a new era. As these policies take shape, AI companies will face increasing scrutiny and adaptation, ultimately shaping the future of innovation and responsible AI development on a global scale.
